About HER Network

Our Organization

HER Network is a youth-led initiative aiming to decrease the gender gap in tech, engineering, mathematics, physics (TEMP) fields by connecting young girls (ages 13-24) around the world together. There is an existing gender gap in STEM, and a even greater gap in TEMP fields specifically. Through a global TEMP girls community, we believe that girls can empower each other, and support each other in the process of pursuing these fields.

Our Mission

To increase girls’ access to TEMP (tech, engineering, math, physics) resources, opportunities, and mentorship, especially for lower-income girls; and to help girls to see the world.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a global network for girls worldwide and empower more girls to pursue TEMP fields.

Why we built HER Network?

HER Network is founded by Ruth Zhang, a high school student, in the winter of 2024, after realizing the bias in STEM fields for girls. As a high school student herself, she found that many of her peers still hold the belief that boys are better at STEM subjects than girls, especially for tech, math, physics and engineering. Being a girl into tech, she experienced struggles of not being able to find like-minded people, which led her to start the initiative. Through HER Network, we hope to build a global community for STEM girls into TEMP (tech, engineering, mathematics, and physics) where girls can empower, help and inspire each other as they pursue a career in the fields.
